Facilitators
Hello, my name is Jessica Spindlow and I am honoured to be the Lead Facilitator of Insight Dubai 2011. I am currently completing my double degree of Arab studies and Government & International Relations, with a minor in Arabic at Sydney University, Australia. I have been extremely blessed to be involved with Insight Dubai for three years now, as a participant and facilitator. I am currently working with the centre of Middle Eastern and North African Studies and teach English to refugee children. I also give speeches to students on leadership, Middle-Eastern topics and Sharia Law. I have always been a strong advocate for women’s Issues globally and have had a lifelong passion for the Middle-East - its culture, politics and history. This conference has given me the rare opportunity to bring together my passions with amazing women from all around the world, in such a magical and diverse country. It has inspired me to push myself to new heights and think with a more open mind and heart. Being apart of Insight Dubai is truly an incredible journey of knowledge, self-discovery and the realisation that every woman on this planet is connected. I would like to welcome the new participants on this wonderful journey and say that knowledge is of no value unless you disperse it and put it into action. If we put the collective work of like-minded women together – we can achieve any goal.
Assalam O Alaikum. I am Hira Tanveer, a development worker from Pakistan. I work for Oxfam GB, Pakistan Programme as a Communication Officer. It was a pleasure attending Insight Dubai Conference 2010 as a participant, and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Interaction with local women indeed changed my perception positively about Arab world. My interaction with diverse cultures and personalities taught me interesting lessons and earned me life-long friends. It’s a wonderful platform for cross cultural communication and understanding different point of views. Insight Dubai brought me face to face with diversity, which is the beauty of this world, and provided me with a chance to interact with women leaders from whole world where I get to learn a lot about different cultures and countries which I never knew of before. This year, I have been invited to the Insight as Facilitator and am excited to share my experience with you, while equally eager to contribute to women leadership and to meet friends from last year's insight and make new friends. I wish all the participants a great learning and am keen to meet you all at the Insight 2011. Together we can, and together we will remove all cultural barriers, challenging all the difficulties and inequalities, will make this world a better and friendly place to live in.
My name is Melanie Quintero and I am about to complete my Bachelor degree in Political Science and Islamic studies at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. Currently I am doing my last year at Sciences Po in Paris. Through my studies I have become particularly interested in the role of women in Islam. In 2010 I had the privilege to participate in Insight Dubai. Although I was expecting it to be a great experience, nothing prepared me for the impact it was going to have on my life. The conference gives you the unique opportunity to meet young talented women from all around the world. Just within those few days you learn so much from each other. Insight Dubai changed the way I think about global issues and different cultures. It was a very intense experience I would not want to miss for the world. I am so honored to be invited back as a facilitator and cannot wait to meet the participants of Insight Dubai 2011. Together we will embark on a fabulous adventure and with the resulting knowledge and understanding we can truly make a difference.
Hola! My name is Luz, (I also go by Lucy) and I am honored to be a facilitator for this year’s Insight Dubai! I was born in Venezuela, and I moved to the United States when I was 10 years old. I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of South Florida, and I am currently a grad student at Nova Southeastern University, studying for the M.S. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution. I have been involved in research in Latin America on violence against women and bullying, and I have also traveled throughout Italy teaching English. I have a passion for learning about world affairs, different cultures and languages, and that is what led me to find out about Insight Dubai. I attended I.D. last year and I can’t find the words to explain how much of an impact this conference had on me, from a personal level to a professional level. Not only did I learn more about the issues I am passionate about like human trafficking, women’s leadership, and international law, but I also learned first-hand about the Emirati culture, and also cultures I had never been exposed to before. This conference is a huge reminder that we have more similarities than we have differences! I cannot wait to meet all the new participants this year, and I assure you, you will learn a great deal, you will form long-lasting friendships, and you will leave with unforgettable memories! See you all very soon, best of luck!
Hi everyone! My name is Deepti Lokhande. I earned my master’s degree in History and an advanced diploma in the Japanese language at the University of Mumbai. Currently, I teach both of these subjects at colleges in Mumbai.I participated in the Insight Dubai Conference in 2010 and had a wonderful experience. The conference is a global village where one gets to learn and interact with so many women coming from across the world and with Emirati women in particular. It definitely enhanced my knowledge about the global issues and helped me in improving my communication skills. Being a student of history I have always loved and enjoyed studying the history and cultures of other countries. The Insight Dubai Conference gives you this opportunity to interact with women and learn to understand their cultures, opinions, views on various issues. In addition, you definitely develop lifetime friendships. I am really excited and honored to be part of this Conference once again. I look forward to meeting you all soon and unveiling the enriching experience of Insight Dubai.
I'm Ahlam Al Bannai, Applied Communications Bachelor final year student at Dubai Women's College. This is my second time to facilitate in Insight Dubai, I attended the conference in 2009 as a particpents when I didnt have enough information about the topics that we will discuss and learn, but after participation and attending all the session the topics that I discussed in the conference became my main interest and I paid more attention to some important international issues like: Human trafficking, autism, women rights and Sharia'a low.. this conference gave me the confident to discuss bigger issues and to change the direction of my future plans. I facilitated in 2010 and now am facilitating again, because Insight Dubai is a great place to improve your leadership skills and meet people from different countries consider them as a new family and share the culture while having fun and gain lots of new benefits.
