The HCT Education Allowance

Employees in Grade 6(Faculty Positions) and above will be reimbursed against receipts/invoices subject to the circumstances, limits and conditions:

o Payment is limited to education fees (Limits apply) for which the normal age of entry is five years by July 31st of the academic year in which the child is enrolled to the end of secondary school within the UAE.
o Children attend private schools in the UAE where the teaching language is basically a foreign language.
o The education benefit will normally cease to be paid at the end of secondary school, which is normally completed by the age of eighteen.

Please note the following points as you prepare to select schools:-

·        You are strongly recommended to contact the schools of your choice as soon as you have received your contract package – delay in doing so will probably mean that you cannot get your child(ren) into school. Many of the schools accept a limited number of students each year. Between the end of June and the end of August it is often difficult ( I'd say Impossible is a better word...Leigh) to contact the school administration.

·        Note carefully the range of fees within the school; in some schools they increase considerably in the higher grades.

·        Check if there is a waiting list for the grades that you want. Some schools show preferences to students from certain countries and drop other applicants down the waiting lists. This particularly applies to DC, JESS and DESS who prefer UK students and sometimes the American School of Dubai, whose curriculum is USA based.

·        Make sure that the curriculum is compatible with your child’s past/future schooling. Find out if the school offers the British or American system; does it teach the International Baccalaureate? For example, changing from the Australian to the British system might mean going back at least one grade. Canadians may find that children who were in grade 1 in Canada may be placed in KG/reception in the UAE.

·        For upper levels in high school, investigate program and subject area compatibilities.

·        Make sure that you follow up on admission information requirements exactly as requested by the schools prior to your arrival. Failure to do so may result in a delay in gaining admission.

·        Note that the school year is September through June; arrival from the Australia/New Zealand/ South African regions late in the academic year may cause difficulties related to correct placement. People coming from the Southern hemisphere are advised to have a Principal’s letter declaring that their child has completed a particular level unless they want their child to repeat that level (which may suit some parents who do not want their son/daughter placed in a class of older students and thus giving them 6 mths to settle in socially whilst coping with the work levels expected).

How you receive the money for the fees

Please note all tuition fees  will be paid by cheque to the employee and will be made payable to the school, not the employee.

CS have introduced a new form for claiming tuition fees. You should complete this form EVERY time you wish to claim tuition fees and attach the relevant invoice. You may attach the invoice for the  term by term fees. The form can be found online.

Receipts MUST be forwarded to the Personnel Department.

Entry Requirements

The Ministry of Education requires the following for entrance to all schools:-

1.    Transfer certificate from previous UAE school or leaving report from school abroad. This should report dates the child entered/left the school and name of last class completed; should be written on school headed paper and signed and stamped by the head teacher/principal.  Again people coming from the Southern hemisphere are advised to have a Principal’s letter declaring that their child has completed a particular level unless they want their child to repeat that level.

2.     Copy of birth certificate

3.     Copy of passport and residence visa

4.     Three passport photos
