Sports days for Horizon SchoolParental Comment/Opinion1 I am British. Horizon School is a comparatively small school, with a maximum class size of 21. It teaches to the British National Curriculum, but has a multicultural student body, with around 50 different nationalities attending. The school has recently moved to new premises, on Al Wasl Road and close to all of the main expatriate residential areas of the city. The emphasis is on academic achievement, but the school has also managed to maintain the friendly, supportiveness of a small local school. I have been living out here for 6 years now, and all of my children have been at Horizon during that period. If you are looking for your children to go to a British National Curriculum school, but be schooled in a friendly, multicultural environment, I strongly recommend this school. 2 3 I am British. Horizon has been a good school for our child (aged 9)- who has learned a lot and mixed well with a whole range of kids of different nationalities. It's a small school but has just moved into much better premises - this is a big plus! It doesn't have the same "overly-British-aloof" feel that a couple of other schools have and this is another plus. The teachers work hard and generally do a good job. Overall the kids are generally happy!

I am Irish. Horizon School is a British curriculum
primary school. It has a wonderful mix of children in terms of nationality &
ethnicity. The school has a very strong ethos of celebrating cultural,
ethnic and religious diversity. If this kind of commitment is important to
you and you wish your children to develop values of tolerance and acceptance
of others Horizon is an excellent choice.
Horizon does focus on holistic development of its children. Horizon students get a lot of exposure to all the different domains of learning and have a broad range of learning experiences. The staff is caring & concerned and foster close ties with parents. In the ‘traditional’ academic sphere Horizon is an adequate school. We had particular concerns about Maths teaching. This area is ‘patchy’ & quality depends on individual teachers concerned. We spent a lot of time & effort making up this deficit with our child. If your kid is already a ‘whiz’ this won’t be a concern. Horizon has moved to a beautiful purpose built campus and boasts a new 25 m swimming pool. Horizon has always encouraged children to participate in sports & have good competitive soccer, netball, & swimming teams with a wide range of other sports offered in PE class & as extra activities. Overall, Horizon is a very good choice of school. It is smaller than many of its peers and therefore offers a friendly & caring environment where students are not overwhelmed or lost in the crowd. It tries to offer a very wide set of learning experiences to its students. Our child loved his time there and developed a lot of confidence and sociability. It is important to note that with the escalating competition for secondary school places in British system schools in Dubai, Horizon now has a progression agreement with Dubai College, English College and DESC
