FootballSome HCT colleges have a combined team which takes part in the Dubai Football League. Inaugural champions in the 98-99 season the team has come down to earth with a jolt since then has never again performed to that level, possibly due to the age, ability, fitness, nationality and build of the players. (We have a lithe 59 year old centre back, a 45 something year old and 90+ something kilo striker). We have Brits, Americans, Scots, Irishmen and Australians represented in the team. Unfortunately opponents all seem to be fit, skillful 20 something year olds . The team is thus in need of something of a youth program! Football is also played in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and RAK and there is an annual 7-a-side competition - a great family day where children can be seen cheering on their aging fading fathers as they compete for the coveted cup. Actually if you are upright, breathing with a remote interest in playing football, you will probably nominated as the new star striker. If you are under 40 you can consider yourself already as the new young star recruit. Fantasy football For those who have resigned themselves to being an armchair footballer we also have a Fantasy Football League. This is based on the English Premier League and over the last eight years the competition has grown steadily. The league and the competition is keen and followed with intense interest. Spend the summer agonizing over your choices and then watch them get injured, get sold to the First Division and generally ruin your year! Australian RulesYes, we do run a traditional Australian Rules Football Tipping contest for those armchair experts from Australia or Anywhere actually on Aussie Rules. Unfortunately up till now this year team loyalties and/or hatreds ( in the case of Collingwood) seem to be affecting how the Aussies are faring. .If you are interested in participating contact Leigh Butler.
