Electricity and Water in your Villas or Apartments

The electricity supply is 220/230 Volts, 50 Hertz.

HCT staff pay for their own utilities. Bills arrive monthly usually to DWC. These can be paid in person, by cheque or through your bank or credit card accounts depending on what arrangements your bank has with DEWA.

They are beautifully colour coded RED - Electricity, BLUE - Water and BROWN -Sewage

Expect bills of Dhs 1800 + per month in summer ( half of this in winter) if you are in a villa. This is due to the costs of running the Air Conditioning.  Apartment living is much cheaper especially if the A/c is covered by the landlord, but apartments obviously don't suit everybody, especially some families.

For new staff

Most of the time on moving into an apartment or villa all that will be required is an initial meter reading of both electricity and water meters. A copy of these readings should be given to the Housing and Visa Officer in FAD.

Payments

Payments can be made at certain banks (the list is growing), check with your bank, and soon  (they tell us) will be able to be made via Internet probably through the following address. The Home page address of Dubai Electricity and Water is http://www.dewa.gov.ae/ ( payment facilities are now available  for customers from certain banks, see the DEWA home page).

Staff who move

The above covers all staff;  Housing and Visa Officer arranges connection of water and electricity or change over of billing from the last tenant.

However, in some cases, staff who are moving must arrange this themselves after obtaining a letter from the Housing and Visa Officer. If this applies read on Documents required

1.          Passport copy, which includes a valid Residence Visa, Stamp.

2.          Copy of the Tenancy Lease.

3.              Your DEWA Consumer Account Number.

4.             No Objection Letter from the FAD (which states your position, you are the occupant of the accommodation and that the HCT is a Federal Government Agency, this ensures that the deposit is waived).

5.              Dhs 50 for connection.

Procedure

1.       Go to Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) which is next to the WAFI Shopping Mall just over the Garhoud Bridge (turn right). On the ground floor is the reception counter where you ask directions to the Consumer Section.

2.          Present all documents.

If the letter is accepted there will be no deposit. (Please state that you work for HCT and therefore, exempted from paying the deposit).
