What is CELTA? The CELTA is a teacher-training course, which will give applicants the necessary skills to enter the profession of teaching English to adult learners. It is an UCLES (Cambridge University) certified course and is recognized internationally.
When is it? DWC runs a Cambridge CELTA course (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) twice a year, usually starting in September and February. The hours are usually Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday 5-8:30 p.m.
What does the course focus on? - Language awareness: basic concepts for describing language, its uses and the skills involved in learning a language. - The learner, the teacher and the teaching/learning context: the learners’ educational background, their motivations, learning styles - Lesson planning: the principles involved in planning for effective teaching to adults, lesson types and activities. - Classroom management: organizing the classroom to maximize learning, monitoring and evaluation of students, effective use of teaching materials and resources - Resources and materials: selection and evaluation of materials and adaptation of resources - Professional development: support systems, publications and other courses for teaching English to adults - Teaching practice and observation of experienced teachers: candidates will teach “ real” students and observe classroom teachers.

Do I qualify for the course? You need to: - be over 18 - have a standard of education which would allow entry to higher education in your country - have a proficient level of spoken and written English - undertake an interview and complete a pre-interview task
