Well I got your attention!
This four wheel drive had just run over the boot (or trunk) of the blue sedan in the photo. The roads here are excellent, but it is the mix of drivers that causes problems. People driving slowly on an eight lane highway can cause as many problems as speeding cars. However, many people drive very fast and at times recklessly, take care. Lots of money, big powerful cars, many nationalities and young inexperienced drivers all combined, you can only imagine it till you see them in action, then it is terrifying. Seat belts
MUST be
worn
If you happen to have an accident when driving In Dubai if possible you are expected to move your car immediately after the "bump" to prevent a traffic jam, then call the Police on 999. It is essential you obtain a Police Report before leaving the scene of the accident as garages will not carry out accident repairs without a Police Report. The Police attending an accident (however minor) hand out what could be called the "who is at fault certificates " basically GREEN is Good and RED is Bad. If you get the Green slip, you are deemed not to be at fault and the other person's insurance company will pay. If you get the Red slip it is your company that will pay and you will get the premium increase due to it. Always carry a photocopy of the front pages
of your Passport and of your resident's visa. Always carry your HCT identity card with you. Always have your original Car Registration Card, Insurance Card and Driver's License with you in the car at all times while driving a vehicle. Where a traffic accident causing injury involves an expatriate, the police normally retain the foreigner’s passport together with sponsor’s passport until a settlement is reached. In the event of a death, a fine of up to Dhs 200,000 will be imposed (in addition to any prison sentence), payable to the deceased’s family. The insurance company will normally take care of the civil proceedings to claim damages. Speed Cameras Operate all over Dubai and the other emirates, both in fixed locations (that look like Grey Post Boxes or tall grey traffic lights) and when set up by the police on small tripods or in cars like in Western Countries. The main highways between Dubai and Abu Dhabi and Dubai and Al Ain now have many cameras, but is still doesn't stop the speed maniacs who don't seem to care about being fined or drive fast until they get near a camera and then brake suddenly till they pass it. Cameras in Dubai get you as you approach them if speeding. In Abu Dhabi they get from behind as you pass them.
