Show Off 32 Applied Communications students organized Show Off 32 , an annual event dedicated to showcasing and promoting UAE National students and entrepreneurs from diverse art fields and media majors. In 2007 and 2008, the Show Off 32 exhibition traveled to Billy Blue College in Sidney and Stefano’s Gallery in Mildura, Australia, as well as being featured at the Dubai Ladies Club in Dubai. The trip to Australia was a great opportunity to support Muslim women’s communities in Australia and to promote education of Muslim women in the Middle East. The event had great media coverage with the exhibition opening announced in the Sydney Morning Herald, Australia’s most widely-read newspaper.
Fingerprints 2009 A group of Applied Communications students organized Fingerprints 2009, an Arts and Media Exhibition to display the projects designed, created and produced over course of their studies. The exhibition focused on art, design, media, photography and film. Some of the work on display received international recognition and awards such as the AIGA Aspen Design Challenge, Gulf Film Festival and Dubai International Film Festival Awards. The Fingerprints 2009 exhibition was featured at the Dubai Cultural and Scientific Association in Al Mamzar and His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, attended and inaugurated the exhibition.
Film Festivals Applied Communications students participate every year at the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) and the Gulf Film Festival (GFF). They are the first students ever to have their films screened at such prestigious events. Besides showcasing their talent, students work as volunteers at both festivals thus increasing their exposure to the international film community and its major players. Both festivals allow students to put into practice the media skills, knowledge and experience they gain at DWC, and prepare them for their future careers.
